The table below illustrates the costs of commencing action within the courts in Northern Ireland. Court fees are generally higher than England and Wales as claims are issued in the relevant local court rather than the Bulk Production Centre.

Remember that many of the costs shown below are recoverable from the debtor as part of your claim and are highlighted in the ‘debtor pays’ column. There is however no guarantee that you will win your claim and where it proves unsuccessful you will have incurred the costs below without the ability to recover them from your debtor.

For claims in excess of £50,000, you are required to pay £1000 upfront before we undertake work on your claim. This upfront fee is taken to cover the cost of the initial hours worked and disbursements charged to your account. Should the chargeable hours and disbursements associated to your claim not exceed £1000, we will refund you the proportionate amount. If your claim is successful, the judge will make a decision on what percentage of our costs the debtor is to pay.

VAT is payable on the costs element and cannot be reclaimed from your debtor. If you are VAT registered you may be able to reclaim the VAT yourself.

Remember if you are adding interest and compensation it may take the debt into a higher banding with higher costs.

Where recovery is successful then the debtor will be liable to pay the amount in the ‘debtor pays’ column although this may occur after you have paid the costs to us.

The process in Northern Ireland is significantly different to England, Wales or Scotland. The Enforcement of Judgments Office (EJO) takes control of all enforcement actions once you have decided to execute your judgment.

Please contact us to get a quote on judgment and enforcement actions. We will always advise you of external enforcement company that we choose to refer the matter to and of the costs and fees before those costs are incurred and before we proceed to act.

Please note that where your debtor is based in England, Wales or Scotland then enforcement costs will revert to the debtors’ jurisdiction and you should read the costs for that jurisdiction by following the links below.
